About First Person Story

First Person exists because we believe everyone has a story to tell — and that change is possible when people come together in person to listen. Our spirit is inclusive rather than competitive, and process- rather than product-oriented.

By uniting both compelling creative events, and training and support for under-represented creators, we aim to build communities where everyone has a voice — and the confidence to use it.

What we do

Live events

The heart of our mission is live storytelling events at venues around the Bay Area. Each event will center around a theme and feature a handful of different storytellers, who workshop and rehearse their stories with their cohort for 12 weeks before each show.

One-day workshops

We will also offer short workshops to help our community develop skills and confidence in live storytelling, public speaking, giving presentations, and creative writing.

Training programs

In the future, we also plan to offer longer training programs with individual coaching and mentorship.

Our mission is to expand the nature of community discourse, to bring perspectives from the margins to the center, and to train and equip people to weave storytelling into their own activism.
